Learning immunology from mothers and babies. Lucien H Turner

Mucosal Immunol. 2026 May 30:100353. doi: 10.1016/j.mucimm.2026.100353. Online ahead of print. ABSTRACT Pregnancy is an immunological marvel allowing intimate approximation between genetically discordant tissues of maternal and fetal origin. Shared immunity across the maternal-fetal dyad including intact cells of maternal and fetal origin establishing microchimerism in both individuals after parturition and the importance of vertically … Read more

Novel mechanisms linking platelet activation to antiphospholipid syndrome

Curr Opin Immunol. 2026 May 29;101:102791. doi: 10.1016/j.coi.2026.102791. Online ahead of print. ABSTRACT Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is a thromboinflammatory disorder in which antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL), particularly anti-β2GPI, initiate a complex, graded platelet activation that integrates immune signaling with coagulation. Clinical and multiparametric flow-cytometric evidence demonstrates a sustained prothrombotic platelet endotype characterized by enrichment of tissue … Read more

The role of electroacupuncture in altering lipoic acid metabolism to reduce joint inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis rats

J Immunol. 2026 May 14;215(5):vkag083. doi: 10.1093/jimmun/vkag083. ABSTRACT Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is characterized by severe synovial inflammation and progressive joint destruction. This study evaluated the therapeutic effects of electroacupuncture (EA) in a rat model of RA and explored its potential association with lipoic acid (LA) metabolism. Collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) was established in rats, followed by … Read more

PI3Kδ inhibition alters CD8 T cell differentiation and reprograms the tumor microenvironment following adoptive immunotherapy

J Immunol. 2026 May 14;215(5):vkag108. doi: 10.1093/jimmun/vkag108. ABSTRACT T cell exhaustion remains a significant barrier to effective adoptive cell therapy in solid tumors. Here, we demonstrate that in vitro treatment with the PI3Kδ inhibitor CAL-101 generates T cells with enhanced stemness and metabolic fitness. These cells show increased mitochondrial dependence and spare respiratory capacity while … Read more

The immune system in Latin America and the Caribbean: Insights into diseases and diversity from local perspectives. Ileana Licona-Limón

Semin Immunol. 2026 May 29;82:102035. doi: 10.1016/j.smim.2026.102035. Online ahead of print. ABSTRACT Latin America and the Caribbean host one of the world’s most complex intersections of ancestry, pathogen exposure, and environmental change, generating an immunological landscape that cannot be fully understood through frameworks derived from high-income regions. The region’s immune profiles reflect the legacy of … Read more

Contributions of T-helper 9 cells in endometriosis-associated inflammation and lesion growth

J Immunol. 2026 May 14;215(5):vkag123. doi: 10.1093/jimmun/vkag123. ABSTRACT Endometriosis is an inflammatory gynecologic disease characterized by ectopic growth of endometrial-like tissue, resulting in pelvic pain and infertility. T-helper 9 (Th9) cells play a known role in various chronic inflammatory diseases. Despite parallels between endometriosis and Th9-driven diseases, their role in endometriosis has not been extensively … Read more

Targeting CCR1 remodels the tumor microenvironment and relieves immune suppression in pancreatic cancer

Cancer Immunol Res. 2026 May 28. doi: 10.1158/2326-6066.CIR-25-1300. Online ahead of print. ABSTRACT A hallmark of pancreatic cancer is an extensive fibroinflammatory stroma. Myeloid cells, including abundant macrophages, are a prevalent cellular component of the pancreatic cancer microenvironment and a key driver of immunosuppression. Identifying mechanisms of myeloid-cell driven immunosuppression is thus key to developing … Read more

STING Activation in Dendritic Cells Enhances Antigen Presentation by Live Tumor Cells. [[{“value”:”Adriana Loverre, Bakhos Jneid, Magali Genest, Maries van den Broek, Nicolas Manel”}]]

Our study reveals that STING activation in dendritic cells using cGAMP-VLP enhances CD8+ T cell recognition of live tumor cells by inducing type I interferon-dependent upregulation of MHC-I on tumor cells in vitro. In vivo, cGAMP-VLP boosts antitumor immunity even in cGAS-deficient tumors, thereby improving the efficacy of immune checkpoint blockade. These findings uncover a … Read more
